TRAINING
Before deployment, it is mandatory for all the management employees to undertake a Basic Security Training Course, which imparts the necessary skills to perform duties. In addition to lesson on basic guarding skills they are taught the rudiment of First Aid, Fire Fighting and Self Defence. The training process is ongoing and progressive throughout the employee’s career to refresh and further develop their knowledge.
Duties/Responsibilities
1. Patrol campus grounds to identify security risks, and ensure buildings, unoccupied rooms, external doors, car parks and security systems are safe and secured.
2. Provide advice to staff and clients on security and safety issues.
3. Attend all responses to alarms, medical emergencies, fires and other similar matters, evacuating premises and contacting appropriate emergency services if required.
4. Provide protection to self and others including administration of First Aid as required.
5. Assist the designated Safety Officer in evaluating and implementing university policies and procedures in the conduct of safety and security inspections.
6. Undertake escort duties for staff, students and visitors (including contractors).
7. Monitor campus visitors to ensure safety and access in accordance with campus policies and procedures and OHS regulations.
8. Liaise with external organisations including emergency services regarding security and safety issues.
9. Provide a high level of client service
10. Operate and maintain a range of security equipment including two-way radios.
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide variety of clients in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed.
2. Demonstrated ability to ensure the security and safety of a site and its clients.
3. Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision and complete all rounds and associated work during the shift.
4. Ability to control situations involving difficult and stressful incidents.
5. Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety and risks to people and property as applied to the working environment.
